Magnesium in the Body

Our bodies require magnesium to function, it is needed in more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. Our nerves, muscle function, immune system, and bones all need this essential mineral. Our bodies require in large amounts calcium, potassium, sodium, chloride, magnesium, phosphorus, and sulfur.

What does a large amount really mean?

Magnesium to maintain function can average 300-450 mg per day, ranging on age and sex.

How does my body absorb this?

Most people take supplements with soluble forms (essentially a carrier to aid in absorption inside the body) due to it being taken orally, this sadly leads to our bodies only absorbing 20-50%. You will also need Vitamin D, B6, amino acids, fiber, and prebiotics all to help support the absorption rate. However good all of this is we use topical magnesium which allows for transdermal magnesium absorption your body can take it all in and at a very fast rate.

Have you ever played a sport where after an event your muscles tighten up and cramp? It can be due to any number of things. Although a huge cause is due to low magnesium. If you apply magnesium before and/or after any exercise you will see a difference in how your muscles can finally relax. I recently did some calf exercises where I overused the muscle. Due to my own protocol I was at normal levels for my magnesium (most people are low or even extremely low due to the diet and stress of our lives). Even though my muscle was upset it didn't cramp once. I was in shock. Ever since I was a kid, if I overworked my body I would wake up with a charley horse, whether I stretched/cooled down/stayed hydrated. I never knew I could exercise without this pain until my body returned to normal with its magnesium levels. This is just my experience but I highly suggest seeing where you stand!

If you experience muscle cramps, fatigue, headaches then I highly suggest testing out where your magnesium stands. Or if you want to lower your cortisol levels, aid in menopause symptoms along with cramps, deeper sounder sleep, and wanting to raise hydration.
